Christmas Tree does not collect information about you or track how you use the app. There are no analytics, ads, tracking SDKs or crash-reporting tools in the app.
Your tree and settings stay on your device.
There are a few places where ordinary internet infrastructure sees information such as your IP address: when the app checks for updates, when you visit this website, and when you download the app. Those are explained below.
Christmas Tree does not collect usage data or personal information.
It does not read your files, keystrokes, clipboard, location or network traffic. It has no advertising identifier and contains no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
The Mac version downloaded from this website uses Sparkle to check for updates. It does this by requesting a small file at xmastreeapp.com/appcast.xml containing the current version information. That file is hosted on Google Cloud Storage.
As with any web request, the server receives your IP address and standard request information, including the app and macOS versions. Google Cloud Storage may record this in its server logs.
We do not use this information for analytics, combine it with other information, or receive any information about how you use Christmas Tree. The app does not send a system profile.
The first time you open Christmas Tree, it asks whether you want automatic update checks. If you say no, it will only check when you choose Check for Updates… from the menu.
The Mac App Store version does not use Sparkle. Apple handles updates through the App Store.
Your tree, lights, baubles, star, countdown day and window preferences are stored on your device. They are kept in a container shared by the app and its widgets so they can show the same tree.
These settings are not sent to us, and we cannot see them.
If you use iCloud Backup, they may be included in your device backup. That is handled by Apple under its own terms and privacy policy.
We use Plausible Analytics to get basic page-view statistics. It records things such as the page visited, where you arrived from, and your browser, operating system, device type and country.
Plausible does not set cookies or store your IP address. To distinguish repeat visits, it creates a hash using your IP address and browser information. The key used to create that hash changes every day, so visits cannot be linked across days.
The analytics script is served from this domain rather than a third-party analytics domain.
This website is hosted by Vercel. App downloads and the update file are hosted on Google Cloud Storage.
Like other web hosts, both services keep ordinary request logs that can contain IP addresses. We have not enabled additional logging and do not use these logs for analytics. Vercel and Google determine how long their infrastructure logs are retained under their respective policies.

Christmas Tree is suitable for all ages. The app does not collect personal information from children or anyone else.
There are no accounts, chat features, user-generated content or advertisements.
Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the UK GDPR, EU GDPR and California privacy laws may give you rights over personal information held about you, including rights to access, correct or delete it.
Apart from the infrastructure logs described above, we do not hold personal information about you. In most cases, that means there is nothing for us to retrieve, correct or delete.
